With the Bokashi food waste recycling system, is it important to drain the liquid?Updated 2 months ago

Yes, it's important to drain the liquid from a Bokashi food waste recycling system. The liquid, often referred to as "Bokashi tea" or "Bokashi juice," is a byproduct of the fermentation process that occurs when kitchen scraps are broken down with Bokashi bran in an airtight container.

This liquid should be drained off regularly, ideally every 1 to 2 days, to prevent the contents from becoming too wet, which can lead to bad odors and potentially inhibit the proper fermentation process.

The drained liquid is rich in nutrients and can be diluted with water (usually at a ratio of 1:100) to serve as a potent liquid fertilizer for plants or poured directly down drains to help clean and deodorize them.

Ensuring the liquid is drained regularly helps maintain the effectiveness of the Bokashi composting process and produces a beneficial byproduct that can be used in your garden or home.
